The Shop
What We Do
At Wardman, we love wine and talking about wine. We feel strongly that wine should be accessible and that buying wine should be stress-free. There is so much good wine being made all over the world right now, and we want people to know about it! Our primary goal is making sure that our customers leave the shop with a bottle of wine that they're really going to enjoy and that they feel comfortable and confident when making their next purchase.
We want to engage our customers on equal terms when talking about what we like about wine, what we smell and taste in the glass, what food we think it might go with, how it makes us feel. This is why the tasting bar is central to the store; because the best way to make sure that you leave with a bottle you're going to love is to actually taste wine and talk about it.
At Wardman Wines, we have carefully selected wines, beers, and spirits from around the world. Our goal is to make wine buying easy and approachable. Our knowledgeable staff is available to provide advice and make recommendations, and a selection of wines is always available to taste at the bar. And if you want to learn more about wine, we hold regular tasting classes to make you more comfortable with the world and language of wine.
What's in a Name?
Wardman Wines takes its name from the Wardman-style row house, a familiar feature of many DC neighborhoods. Generations of DC residents have grown up in these homes, which are named for real-estate developer Harry Wardman. These houses are integral to the fabric of Washington, and we hope that, in time, Wardman Wines can also become integral to our surrounding community.
