Spring Staff Picks

This Wednesday, to celebrate last week's Vernal Equinox, the theme is Spring Staff Picks! At Wardman, we work hard to curate a wide selection of wines to appeal to a broad range of palates, and we really enjoy to explore the enormous variety the world of wine has to offer. However we all have those bottles that we go back to when it's just for us. This week, the staff at Wardman are sharing their favorites for the spring. These are wines for smiling sunny days, lengthening evenings, and the first picnics of the season. Join us Wednesday, March 26 from 4pm-7pm to sample our personal seasonal favorites! Here's what we'll be pouring:

  • For his white wine, Eric has selected the Edetària Via Edetana Garnatxa Blanca, saying: "As much as I love the winter, there is no spell quite like those first few really gorgeous days of Spring in between all the chilly and rainy ones. That first pulse of instinct to spend all day outside and damn the torpedoes! This wine's maritime mineral backbone under the stonefruits and floral aromatics just sings to accompany one of your first outside dinners of the season."

  • Jaz's choice of white is the Antiquum Farm Daisy Pinot Gris, because "as we all know, Spring is finally here! This wine is perfect for this weather, and its bright, round stone and orchard fruits somehow make a picnic or backyard hang outs on a nice day that much more enjoyable for its pretty florals and creamy texture."

  • Lyndon picked the Mr. Brightside Gamay Noir Blanc: "Imagine a renowned French red grape grown on the West Coast and a wine made without touching its skins—the result? A stunningly unexpected white wine bursting with beautiful floral notes and vibrant freshness. Intriguing, elegant, and effortlessly drinkable, it's become my trusted go-to pairing for dinner or just a night with friends."

  • For a red, Lyndon chose the Domaine Barmès-Buecher Coteaux Calcaires Pinot Noir to carry on the theme of uniqueness: "Alsace, a region renowned for its historic white wines, holds a hidden gem—Pinot Noir. Though it makes up only 10% of the region’s production, this rarity allows for a meticulous, focused approach. The result is a delicate, balanced red wine with depth. It’s the perfect answer to the age-old question of whether red wine pairs well with fish."

  • Jaz's red selection is the Chionetti Briccolero Dogliani Dolcetto, of which she says: "I chose this Dolcetto for its powerful flavor, dusty texture, and the spicy and herbaceous vein running through the middle. This is a lovely wine for a Sunday dinner, a meal shared with friends, steak and potatoes and good conversation. (Don't forget the water on the side though, gotta stay hydrated!)"

  • Finally, for his red, Eric picked the Casa do Joa Alto do Joa Tinto Transmontano because "this is a great red for the transition from Winter to Spring, especially for those of us who enjoy having one foot on either side of a line. Even though its dark, earthy, and structured aspects are firmly concentrated due to the incredible age of the vines (150-200 years), this field blend has much more delicate strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry notes that blend nicely with a fresh and high toned juicy acidity."

Tickets for our Wednesday tastings are $15, and the wines are 10% off during the tasting.
