Join us on Wednesday, July 30, from 4pm to 7pm, for an exploration of the White Wines of Spain!
Like most Mediterranean countries, Spain has been home to winemaking since before Rome had an empire. And despite the trials of the intervening millennia, today the country is home to a multitude of winemaking styles and traditions as varied as the country's landscape and climate. Of that multitiude of wines, many of the most widely-known today are reds, which tend toward the big, bold, and rich. While these wines are delicious, as we sit here an contemplate yet another afternoon of scorching summer temperatures, they're not really speaking to us.
Happily, Spain also produces a profusion of unique and wonderful white wines that are brilliantly suited to taking the edge off the worst of summer's swelter! From the rugged mountains of Galicia in the northwest, to the sun-kissed Mediterranean coast in the east and south, to the windswept volcanoes of the Atlantic islands—each home to their own indigenous grape varietals—the number and character of the white wines of Spain are as diverse as the landscape of the country itself.
We've assembled a lineup of six Spanish white wines that we think you should know about, and while a single tasting of six wines will never be sufficient to exhaustively cover the wines of an entire country, we hope this glimpse of the possibilities will give you license to embark on your own exploration of what Spain has to offer!
Tickets for our regular Wednesday tastings are $10, and the wines in the lineup are all 10% off during the tasting.
