This week's Feature Tasting is a bit different, but we think you all will enjoy the challenge. Stop in this Wednesday, August 27 from 4-7pm to play!
Ah, Chardonnay! The grape that wine snobs love to hate. Comparatively easy to grow and very flexible in the cellar, Chardonnay has, in some ways, been its own worst enemy. The very qualities that have led to it being the second-most widely-planted* white wine grape in the world, have also allowed for the production of vast quantities of mediocre table wine (of the sort that wine critic and Riesling fanatic Stuart Piggot dubbed "Bullshit Chardonnay") that have caused an increasing number of wine drinkers to turn their backs on this noble grape in boredom and/or disgust.
Whether or not you are a Chardonnay sceptic, however, we think you'll enjoy the following test. We are proposing a BLIND TASTING of six wines in three pairs. One of each will be (at least predominantly) Chardonnay, and the other not. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to guess which is which. Whether the excercise transforms your perceptions of Chardonnay or simply confirms your prior opinion, it's sure to be delicious fun! Join us this Wednesday, August 27th from 4pm to 7pm to test your palate.
The challenge costs $10 to accept, and the payoff is 10% off bottles on the bar during the tasting! Stop in and challenge your preconceived notions of one of wine's most important grapes, and maybe even find your next new favorite thing!
