Join us at the tasting bar on Wednesday, February 22, from 4pm to 7pm, for an exploration of Syrah. Hiram will be pouring six excellent and varied examples of Syrah from around the world.
From the elegant legendary wines of the Northern Rhône, to the bold cult wines of South Australia, the Syrah grape has made waves all over the world. Less flashy and trendy than its cousins from Bordeaux and Burgundy (looking at you, Pinot and Cabernet), Syrah—or Shiraz, if you like the Australian style—is a stalwart. It can play a beautiful supporting role, as in the classic blends of the Southern Rhône or the juicy, jammy GSM blends of the New World or even, though no one will ever admit it, adding substance to a bad vintage of Bordeaux. But it can be utterly stunning on its own, producing wines that can range in style from playful and floral to intensely deep and powerful, depending on where and how it's grown, harvested, and vinified.
Tickets for our regular Wednesday tastings are $15, and the wines in the lineup are all 10% off during the tasting.
