Meet Winemaker Angela Fronti!

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to host winemaker Angela Fronti at the tasting bar on Friday, May 9 from 4pm to 7pm! We have carried some of her wines in the past but not recently, and it is wonderful to have her here to help reintroduce them to you.

Istine is a relatively young winery in Tuscany, having only started growing grapes in 1982 and bottling wine under their own label for the first time in 2009. Growing up, Angela Fronti adamantly did not want to work in the family business of providing agricultural services and supplying bulk wine to other other wineries. Instead, she dreamed of producing her own wine. Having earned a degree in winemaking, she found work at other wineries elsewhere in Tuscany, but she felt drawn to her family's vineyards in Radda and took over their management, producing her first wine under the Istine label in 2009. Since then, the wines have received international recognition and she has expanded the label to include single-vineyard wines from each of the family's plots. In addition, they have been certified organic since 2016.

Angela only works with autochthonous varietals, using traditional winemaking techniques, aging the wines in large, neutral oak barrels after an extended maceration time. The single-vineyard wines are all vinified the same way, to allow the distinctive characteristics of the individual parcels to show through. In exceptional years, she also makes a Riserva, which is a blend of grapes from all three named parcels.
