We are delighted to be hosting Chris Cottrell of Bedrock Wine Company at the tasting bar on Friday, March 10. The last time we had Chris in the shop was before the pandemic, so it's really great to have him back to pour some of Bedrock's recent vintages and tell us more about their current projects.
Bedrock Wine Company is the passion project of a lifelong wine maker. Morgan Twain-Peterson began making wine at a ludicrously young age under the tutelage of his father, Joel Peterson, who unquestionably put Zinfandel on the map of American palate with Ravenswood. Bedrock now leads the charge to find and preserve some of the oldest and rarest vineyards in California, often planted by pioneers in the California wine industry as early as the 1880's. A few years after starting Bedrock, Morgan convinced his old friend and colleague Chris Cottrell to up stakes and move across the country to make wine with him in California. Their first collaboration was Under the Wire, a project that focuses on single-vineyard, single-vintage sparkling wines inspired by the grower champagne movement. Shortly thereafter, Chris joined Bedrock as the first non-family member on the team.
By employing minimal handling and production manipulation, and avoiding common California shortcuts (such as lake water, tartaric acid, and cheap oak), Morgan and Chris aim to make wines as true to their classic Cali terroir as they can possibly be. Their single vineyard wines are truly some of the most expressive of their time and place that we have in the shop. We fell in love, and are sure that you will too!
Chris will be at the tasting bar from 4pm to 7pm. We hope you'll join us to taste these amazing wines and learn more about the work that goes into them. This tasting is free.
In addition to the current vintage, older vintages of several of the tasting wines, as well as a number of Bedrock's other single-vineyard wines, will be available for purchase during the tasting.
