Despite the slow start, it seems like the warmer weather might finally be here to stay. And here in DC, that means summer is staring us in the face, the academic year is winding down, and Memorial Day is just around the corner. For us, these sunny days and long, warm evenings are an inspiration to take our meals outside. Whether we're hanging out by the grill, dining al fresco with the family, or picnicking with friends, we're just glad to get outside and see people. Naturally, we'll want some wine to bring outside with us! So, we've picked six fun and interesting bottles to pair and share.
A sparkling rosé of Sangiovese is bright and fresh, with a food-friendly savory character, while an aromatic Trebbiano-based white wine is delicious on its own or paired with fish and light fare. An orange Pinot Grigio masquerades as rosé with a kick and begs to be paired with salty snacks or grilled vegetables, and a toasty, nutty Chardonnay is a great porch/pool wine and would match well to grilled oysters. A light, fruity Spanish red blend can take a chill and would be a great companion to burgers and hot dogs, as well as cheese and charcuterie, while a bold, rich Agiorgitiko has the structure to pair with steak or lamb.
The Summer Grilling Six-Pack goes on sale on Wednesday, May 4, and we'll be featuring the wines on Instagram Live on Friday, May 6 at 4pm.
